Notes on GER-Core, GER-PE and UE
GER-Core courses are segmented into 3 areas including Communication, Singapore Studies and Environmental Sustainability. The courses are pre-arranged by the school in the first and second year of study and are compulsory for all students.
GER-PEs are classified under 4 sub-areas of interest which includes Art, Humanities & Social Sciences (AHSS), Science, Technology & Society (STS), Business & Management (BM) and Liberal Studies (LS). The courses are offered to students from all programmes. According to the SSM Curriculum structure, students are expected to fulfill a specified number of AUs per area in the entire course of their study.

UE refers to any other courses offered at the School and University level but do not count as Core or GER-PE. You can select any UE offered by any School in NTU, not just UEs offered within SSM.

UEs can be used to fulfill the requirements of a minor programme offered by other Schools in the University.

Students are only allowed to change course classifications for courses registered in the current semester during the Add/Drop period via STARS and is limited only to GER-PE and UEs. Requests to reclassify courses after the Add/Drop period will not be allowed.

Requests to change course classifications for graded courses completed in previous semesters are considered appeals and will be strictly considered on a case-by-case basis.
